Swimming with Whale Sharks-Cancun

If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience, swimming with Whale Sharks should be on the top of your list! This was an amazing experience swimming with the biggest fish in the sea.

From start to end our Whale Shark Tour with Eco Tours Adventure was amazing. We were picked up promptly, giving a great overview of how the day would go, giving fantastic instructions, got to see whale sharks and sea turtles, and spend some time on Isla Mujeres.

Our Guide, Marco, and Driver Daniel were exactly on time to pick us up at 6:15am at our resort. During the trip to the marina Marco gave us fantastic instructions about how the day would go, information on whale sharks and conservation, as well as tips for swimming with whale sharks.

When we arrived to the marina we were able to relax at a lovely restaurant and enjoy some sandwiches for breakfast. We were all given a sea sickness preventative. The facilities were clean and well kept.

Our boat captain was Jimmy and our second guide was Xavier. Them along with Marco kept us safe, well fed and hydrated throughout the day. It took us a little over an hour to get out to where the whale sharks were. There were several boats (many really) around the 5-10 whale sharks that I counted.

The process to get in to see the whale sharks took a bit to get used to. In teams of two swimmers to one guide we would jump off the side of the boat (sometimes with the boat running) to get positioned in front of the whales, and then swim along side them. It was a fantastic experience. Each group was not in the water very long, however, long enough to get a great view and nice experience. Staying in the water longer wouldn't have been productive as the whale sharks wouldn't be nearby anymore.

We had a private boat so just our group of 6 was on the boat. We each jumped off the boat 3 times, and could have jumped one more time. The captain did his best to get the boat aligned for each jump, and it did take some time to find the best position between each jump.

After the whale shark experience, we were going to stop and do a coral snorkel, however 2 members of our group were seasick, so we opted to head right to Isla Mujeres for dry land. We had a great walk around and in the lagoon at the MIA resort and saw lots of small fish. The lunch buffet we had at the MIA resort was delicious, varied, and the staff was so nice.

We headed back to the boat, had a fantastic Champagne toast and then had a leisurely ride back to the marina.

The ride back to the hotel was wonderful, and our driver did a great job navigating all of the afternoon Cancun traffic.

Our group had a fantastic time and couldn't have been more please with our tour. Marco and the entire team was fantastic!
